Arteta: Late wins strengthen Arsenal's belief, atmosphere & unity

Mikel Arteta enjoyed celebrating with the Emirates Stadium audience after Arsenal's first Premier League victory in nearly five years.

Mikel Arteta had no problem with Arsenal winning late against Wolves on Thursday, claiming that such a thrilling win was beneficial for the team's morale.

Arsenal won a crucial 2-1 match at Emirates Stadium in their effort to qualify for the

Champions League

The Gunners ascended to the fifth position in the

Premier League

, a point behind fourth-placed Manchester United with two matches remaining, but having to work hard for it.

After falling down to Hwang Hee-chan's early goal, Arteta's side ultimately equalized eight minutes from mark through substitute

Nicolas Pepe

, who then set up

Alexandre Lacazette

for a strike that Jose Sa deflected into his own goal.

That clinching own goal took 94 minutes and 56 seconds to score, making it Arsenal's first Premier League victory since Alexis Sanchez's spot-kick against Burnley in January 2017. (97:14).

When quizzed if he would have like to see Arsenal win comfortably, Arteta informed Prime Video:

"Probably [I would prefer] the way we won it, because it creates such a belief, a togetherness, an atmosphere and cohesion with our fans as well.

"That's extremely necessary. We really want to create something special here, and without our fans we're not going to be able to do it."

Arsenal has now won seven of their last nine league games, just losing once to Manchester City over that time.

It's a long cry from a poor start to the season, as Arteta confessed when he said:

"After three defeats in the first three games, we had to avoid relegation.

"That was the first thing that we had to do, and then just go game by game."
