Senegal tops Group B in Africa Cup of Nations

Senegal reaches the next stage despite their draw against Malawi.

Senegal’s

draw against

Malawi

, which could have been a defeat for them, didn’t keep them from reaching the next stage of the Africa Cup of Nations as the leaders of Group B despite their poor performance and scoring only one goal in three games which was a penalty that

Liverpool’s

star

Sadio Mane

converted against

Zimbabwe

in their only victory in the competition so far.

Malawi now has the chance to get to the next round if they become one of the four best third-placed teams as they sit in third place because of the head-to-head rule as second-placed

Guinea

also has four points.

Malawi had the chance to defeat Senegal in this match and finish as the group leaders, but the late penalty that was awarded to them was canceled by the Cameroon referee Blaise Ngwa when the scene was reviewed, but it seems like Senegal was so lucky as there was both a pull of the shirt and contact and it could be seen as a penalty as Gomezgani Chirwa was brought down in the box by defender Bouna Sarr.
