Arsenal’s request for postponing Tottenham clash accepted

The clash between Tottenham and Arsenal on Sunday was postponed.

Arsenal

requested for their battle against

Tottenham

to be called off after they had "many players currently unavailable across our squad as a result of Covid, injuries and players away with their countries at AFCON".

According to

Sky Sports News

, Tottenham were not pleased with the idea of the game being called off. They believe that the Gunners are not dealing with a Covid-19 outbreak.

A statement released by the Premier League on Saturday afternoon read:

"Following a request from Arsenal, the Premier League board met today and regrettably agreed to postpone the club's away fixture against Tottenham.

"With Arsenal having fewer than the required number of players available for the match (13 outfield players and one goalkeeper), the board accepted the club's application.

"The decision is a result of a combination of COVID-19, existing and recent injuries and players on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations."

The England top-flight also said that "all clubs are able to apply for a postponement if COVID-19 infections are a factor in their request".

Mikel Arteta insisted on Friday that his side’s "intention is always to play".

Martin Odegaard

did not feature for his side in their goalless draw with

Liverpool

in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final due to coronavirus. Emile Smith Rowe and Takehiro Tomiyasu are also out dealing with injuries.

Cedric Soares was sent off in the clash against Liverpool, with Bukayo Saka also taking a knock. Granit Xhaka’s red card would have ruled him out of the clash against the Spurs.

Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny, Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are all on international duty at AFCON.
