Africa Cup of Nations favorites hit by COVID-19 outbreak

Algeria, Ivory Coast and Morocco have been hi b the new coronavirus surge 1 week before the tournament kicks off.

Africa Cup of Nations favorites such as Algeria, Ivory Coast and Morocco have all been hit COVID-19 outbreak just one week before the competition kicks off.

Ivory Coast

have been preparing themselves for the Africa Cup of Nations in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia before heading to Cameroon where they are set to face Algeria, Equatorial Guinea and Sierra Leone in the Group E of the competition. The Ivorians have confirmed that some players coming from European league have contracted the coronavirus and have been quarantined, however, the names of the players were not mentioned.

Algeria

also announced earlier that Youcef Belaili, Mohamed Amine Tougai and Houcine Benyada have all tested positive for the COVID-19. Algerian federation later stated that the aforementioned players have to "observe the period of quarantine required by sanitary protocols before re-joining the squad”.

Morocco

star Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, who plays as winger for Barcelona, also came back with positive results.

The players that have been called up for AFCON are allowed by the Confederation of African Football to stay at their clubs until Monday.

The players are usually released to their national teams 14 days before the tournament kicks off.
