Newcastle vs Everton postponed due to Covid and injuries

Given the rise of Covid-19 cases among Eddie Howe’s side as well as injuries, the battle between Newcastle and Everton on Thursday has been postponed.

Eddie Howe

revealed on Monday that

Newcastle

were “dangerously close” to not being able have a full team for the battle. They could not name eight substitutes, including two shot-stoppers, instead of nine for their 1-1 draw against

Manchester United

on Monday. The squad were frustrated because of the growing injury list and Covid-19 cases.

lost Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser joined the injury list in the clash against the Red Devils, whereas Javier Manquillo received his fifth yellow card of the season, creating more difficulty for selection.

Newcastle’s battle against

Everton

is their first ever postponed clash since the Omicron variant started to affect the Premier League in December.

The Magpies are sitting second-bottom, two points behind safety, and had four more games than the sides who sit above them, Burnley.
