, who has not been included in Uruguay’s list for the World Cup qualifying games, has revealed that his absence in some games this season, including their Premier League clash against Manchester City was, because of the tendon injury that has been with him since pre-season.

The Uruguay international says that the injury has troubled him in the pre-season, but it came back after the Red Devils’ clash against Tottenham, insisting that he has played for the national team with some pain, and now he has decided to work on his recovery to prevent it from affecting his performance.

The forward told El Observador:

"The issue was like this. Before starting the season, I had discomfort in a tendon.

"It made me spend a couple of weeks out until I began to gain some minutes [on the pitch] in my team. I had to go back to the national team, always with a bit of pain, but with the hope that it would disappear. It was improving but, after Tottenham, it started coming back.

"They are difficult injuries and I decided to have the treatment so that it does not continue to get worse, and to recover as soon as possible to be fit for my team and the national team."

Cavani has only played two games as a starter this season, and he has been used as a substitute six times, scoring only one goal for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
