Germany player tests positive for Covid-19 before World Cup qualifiers

A player in the Germany squad, who are getting ready for their World Cup qualifiers Liechtenstein and Armenia, has tested positive for Covid-19.

One of the members of the Germany squad has tested positive for Covid-19 and four others have to quarantine themselves. The unnamed player has been fully vaccinated and is showing no symptoms, based on a DFB statement released on Tuesday.

All the members of the team were PCR tested when they arrived at Germany’s training camp before their qualifier clashes against Liechtenstein and Armenia.

Germany’s Tuesday training session was canceled, based on the reports, but the DFB statement did not mention that.

Director of the national teams and academy,

Oliver Bierhoff

, said:

"The number of coronavirus cases has risen sharply across the country.

"Therefore, we will continue to implement the hygiene and behavioural measures in place for the final international game of the year, in order for us to handle the current situation as responsibly as possible.

"This news coming so soon before the final two World Cup qualifiers is very tough, both for the coaching staff and the whole team, but health and welfare is our top priority, of course.

"I hope the player who tested positive recovers soon and that he remains asymptomatic."

Germany has been dealing with a lot of coronavirus cases recently, with 169,483 cases recorded, according to WHO.
