Lijnders: Liverpool front three look like raptors in Jurassic Park

Liverpool’s assistant coach praises his side’s attackers after their massive win against Manchester United.

Liverpool crushed Manchester United 5-0 in a Premier League game at Old Trafford on Sunday. The Reds’ performance in the final third was stunning, with the Liverpool attackers constantly creating chances behind the Red Devils’ backline.

Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick as Liverpool took their goal-scoring tally of the season to 41. In addition to Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota are also in top form, making Liverpool one of the toughest English teams to defend against.

Ahead of his side’s EFL Cup game against Preston North End on Wednesday, Pep Lijnders praised his side’s forwards for their impressive performances.

"I think it has to do with the way we are playing,"

he told reporters.

"It's the whole package that means our front players get into good positions. The front three look like raptors in Jurassic Park!

"We haven't changed anything. Sometimes improving is going back to basics. Players needed a break after a few intense and emotional seasons."

With his hat-trick against the Red Devils, Salah broke a club record by scoring in ten consecutive matches for Liverpool. It remains to be seen whether the Egypt international will survive rotation to continue his incredible run.

Asked about making changes for the upcoming game against the Championship side, Jurgen Klopp’s assistant responded:

"We are used to making changes,"

Lijnders said.

"We have to do things the right way by training and recovering correctly.

"That's what I like about us – we prepare at the same level no matter who the opponent is. We have to show our fans that same hunger and desire.

"Origi is the top scorer in this competition. He is a world-class finisher and is looking sharp, as is Minamino. Last season went to show that we need all of our players.

"They all have to show the right mentality and be ready. They have to stay patient and keep training hard."

After their EFL Cup game, the Reds will face Brighton in their next Premier League match on Saturday.
