Frontzeck appointed as Wolfsburg’s interim coach

Die Wolfe sacked Mark van Bommel after a run of eight winless games.

Wolfsburg decided to part ways with their manager Mark van Bommel on Sunday. The Dutch coach was sacked after his side failed to win any of their last eight games.

Die Wolfe have selected Van Bommel’s assistant Michael Frontzeck as their interim coach until they find a new manager.

Wolfsburg were defeated 2-0 by Freiburg on Saturday. This was the club’s fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions as they slipped to ninth place on the Bundesliga table. However, Van Bommel still believes he could have turned things around at Volkswagen Arena.

"I'm surprised and disappointed by the decision because I'm certain that we would have managed to get back on track together,"

he said after the news of his dismissal broke out.

"I hope the team manage to turn things around quickly."

Frontzeck's first game in charge will be a Bundesliga clash against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.
