Guardiola made a phone call to Ronaldo before his Man Utd move

The Portuguese superstar returned to Old Trafford on a €25m deal on Friday.

Having ended his three-year stay at Juventus, Cristiano Ronaldo was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City last week. However, the Citizens’ city-rivals made a last-minute effort to sign their former player and managed to finalize a two-year

deal

for the 36-year-old.

Manchester City boss

Pep Guardiola

spoke about his side’s efforts to sign the player last week.

“In my personal view there are few players, Ronaldo and Messi included, who decide where they are going to play,”

the Spanish manager said.

“They are the absolutely leading role in the negotiations and the desire of where they want to play. In that position, right now I’m more than delighted with the squad we have and we’ll stay the same.”

According to

La Repubblica

, Guardiola spoke to Ronaldo about his potential transfer last week.

“If you can come, we will try to live together. But I can’t guarantee you anything.”

the former Barcelona boss reportedly told Ronaldo over the phone.

Ronaldo is looking forward to returning to Old Trafford after 12 years. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is set to play for the Red Devils in their Premier League match against Newcastle on September 11.
