Gerrard self-isolating after Rangers confirmed Covid-19 outbreak

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is in quarantine and is going to miss the club’s Europa League play-off clash against Alashkert on Thursday, with the club dealing with a Covid-19 outbreak.

Captain James Tavernier, Ryan Kent and goalkeepers Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin are also not going to feature for

Rangers

against

Alashkert

on Thursday’s second leg in Armenia.

Rangers will lock horns with

Celtic

on Sunday and assistant coach Gary McAllister is expected to take charge until

Steven Gerrard

’s return from self-isolation.

Among the group who travelled are Leon Balogun, Filip Helander, Borna Barisic, Joe Aribo, Cedric Itten, Alfredo Morelos, Connor Goldson, Nathan Patterson, Steven Davis, Glen Kamara, Scott Arfield and Ianis Hagi.

It was confirmed by Rangers that the club is dealing with some positive Covid-19 cases but they did not say how many were affected.

"

Rangers can confirm that during our testing schedule, we have received positive Covid-19 tests,

" read a club statement on Tuesday.

"Those identified as positive are now in self-isolation along with 'close contacts'.

"We have followed best practice in our procedures and protocols.

"From the outset of the pandemic, Rangers has worked closely with the Scottish Government and Scottish football to ensure the health of our staff is protected at all times. We will continue to do so."
