Bayern president Hainer surprised by Alaba kissing Real Madrid badge
The former Bayern left-back joined the Blancos on a free transfer this summer.
Having ended his 12-year stay at Allianz Arena, David Alaba
joinedReal Madrid to replace the departed Sergio Ramos earlier this summer. The 29-year-old, who won multiple domestic and European titles with the Bavarians, enjoyed an official unveiling at the Spanish club on May 28.
During the presentation, Alaba posed for a picture by kissing the Real Madrid badge. Bayern chief
Herbert Hainer
says he is surprised by the player’s gesture.
“The truth is that it surprised me a little.”
the 67-year-old told Bild of Alaba's gesture.
Kissing a club’s badge is widely interpreted as having a deep emotional bond with that club. However, Hainer’s surprise might also be related to Alaba’s
contract stand-offwith the Bavarians which resulted in his departure from the German side. Alaba made his debut for the Blancos in their 4-1 win over Alaves last week. The Spanish giants will face Levante in their second league game of the season on Monday.
