Gladbach ruin Nagelsmann’s debut by a 1-1 Bundesliga draw with Bayern

Julian Nagelsmann's Bundesliga reign as Bayern Munich head coach debuted with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Borussia Monchengladbach.

The former RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim manager was

appointed as Hansi Flick’s replacement at Bayern’s dugout

 this summer.

German coach kickstarted his Bundesliga career with Bayern in a Friday game against Borussia Monchengladbach at Borussia-park.

Sommer’s heroics were Gladbach’s advantage since the starting the game as Die Roten went behind in the 10th minute thanks to a goal by Alassane Plea.

The Swiss goalkeeper denied Roberto Lewandowski three times before the Polish finally scored the equalizer for the Bavarians in the 42nd-minute.

Bayern had firmly established dominance and that continued into the second half, with a desperate block by Sommer denying Alphonso Davies a near-certain goal and he then stuck out afoot to prevent Lewandowski from getting his second of the day soon after.

But Gladbach began to create openings on the break towards the end and Marcus Thuram should have sealed the three points 13 minutes from time when he only got the faintest of touches on Stefan Lainer's pass across the face of goal.

Bayern’s new coach will have been largely pleased

with the overall dominance exerted by Bayern but they were unable to make the most of their chances. Their new summer signing, Upamecano, was lucky to avoid conceding two late penalties for clumsy collisions with Thuram, as the spoils were ultimately shared.
