Saka expresses gratitude to Spurs fans for the standing ovation

The 19-year-old showed his gratitude to Tottenham fans for their welcome when he came back to action at the weekend.

The England international received a standing ovation from Spurs fans during

Arsenal

’s last pre-season friendly clash.

Bukayo Saka

climbed off the bench during the second half of Arsenal’s battle against

Tottenham

on Sunday, having his first game after Euro 2020 with England, when they were defeated at the hands of Italy in the final.

The 19-year-old was subjected to racial abuse after England lost at Euro 2020 final on July 11, but he received a warm welcome from fans on Sunday.

Arsenal, however, lost the game 1-0 as Son Heung-min found the back of the net for Spurs.

Saka expressed his gratitude to Spurs fans on social media after the clash.

"

So much respect for this, thank you!"

the Gunners starlet wrote on his Instagram story.

Tottenham, meanwhile, posted Saka’s introduction video on their account, saying:

"Rivalries aside. What a moment this was this afternoon

."

Saka failed to meet the back of the net in England’s penalty shootout in the European Championship and was racially abused on social media along with Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.

The FA took action against the racism and called for the social media to make their platforms safer, while the Metropolitan Police started an investigation.
