Andros Townsend set to join Everton on free transfer

Everton are on the brink of signing former Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend on a free transfer.

Everton’s newly appointed manager

Rafa Benitez

is aiming to bring his first signings to the club since his controversial move to Goodison Park. The Toffees want to bring in former

Crystal Palace

star

Andros Townsend

on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old has been without a team since his deal at Selhurst Park expired in late June.

Townsend is a familiar face for Benitez, albeit having taken charge of the winger for only two months between March and June 2016 during his

Newcastle

spell.

In June, Townsend told Sky Sports News Everton were making the right move by appointing the Spaniard as their new boss.

"I played under Rafa at Newcastle, so I know how good of a manager he is,"

he said

.

"He's good on the training pitch. He is always trying to work hard and he's a good man as well. Good man-manager.

"So, taking out the rivalry, taking out the Liverpool-Everton. For on-pitch reasons, I think it's a really good appointment."

The Winger scored 16 goals in 185 appearances during his five-year spell at the South London club.
