Brazil call up Arsenal pair for the Olympic team
Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli have been named in Brazil’s squad for the summer games.
Brazil
announced their 22-man list for the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday. In addition to Arsenal’s
Gabriel Magalhaesand
Gabriel Martinelli, Everton’s
Richarlisonand Sao Paulo’s
Dani Alvesare also present on the list.
The Olympic games are not considered part of the official football calendar and the clubs are allowed to prevent their players from participating in the competition. According to
Goal.com, Vinicius Junior has been omitted from the team due to Real Madrid’s request. However, Borussia Dortmund’s
Reinier Jesus, who is on loan from Real Madrid, is included in the squad.
The Tokyo Olympics will officially begin on July 23. However, the football competition is set to start a day earlier and will run until August 7. The new Premier League season will kick off on August 13, meaning Magalhaes and Martinelli will have less than a week to prepare for Arsenal’s opening match of the season against Brentford.
