Alba hopes to retire at Barca amid transfer links

The Spanish left-back has been heavily linked with a move away from Camp Nou in recent weeks.

Jordi Alba

joined Barcelona in the summer of 2012, right after he won Euro 2012 with Spain. The Spaniard is looking to repeat that success with La Roja this summer, but there have been several rumors about his future at Barcelona in recent weeks.

The Blaugrana are reportedly interested in selling Alba as they are desperate to reduce their wage bill ahead of the next season. However, the veteran defender says he has no desire to leave the club.

“I have three years remaining on my contract and I feel able to complete them,”

Alba said in a press conference ahead of La Roja’s match against Croatia on Monday.

“The decision of the club is there, but my intention is to stay at Barcelona for life.”

Barcelona are reportedly interested in buying Valencia’s

Jose Luis Gaya

as Alba’s replacement. However, signing the 26-year-old won’t be easy for the Catalans as they can use only 25% of player sales for new signings. Gaya’s current contract runs until 2023 and Valencia are under no pressure to sell their star defender ahead of the next season.
