Laporta positive on Messi staying at Barca: I'm convinced he will stay

Barcelona chairman Joan Laporta is sure Lionel Messi will stay at the club after the late spring.

Ronald Koeman

with a 4-0 Copa del Rey final triumph over

Athletic Bilbao

In any case, Messi's drawn-out future at the Camp Nou stays a critical issue for both Koeman and Laporta to settle with his present agreement set to terminate in July.

The 33-year old has reliably expressed he will stand by until the finish of the 2020/21 season prior to settling on a choice on his arrangements, and Laporta is fixed on keeping Messi in Catalonia.

"Leo is the best in the world, he is deeply rooted in the club," he told an interview with

Marca

 after the final.

"I am convinced he wants to stay and we will do everything within our means and in our power to make him stay."

Messi's two goals against the Basque side brought his count for 2020/21 up to 31 goals in all rivalries.

His take from last season added up to a similar figure toward the finish of the mission, and he could break the 40-goal imprint interestingly since 2019 in the coming weeks.
