Emre Can: “Patience was the key today”

The BVB midfielder believes the key to their victory over Hertha on Saturday was “patience”.

Borussia Dortmund

with a 2-0 result on Saturday, which has seen them 5th on the

table, one point adrift of Frankfurt and

Emre Can

believes his side should consider each match as a knockout.

We have to view every match as a knockout game. Patience was the key today,

" said Emre Can.

The Germany international then went on to praise the Dortmund shot-stopper.

We performed well and already created several chances in the first half but the goalkeeper made some good saves. We said to each other at the break that we wanted to keep playing football. In the end, we deservedly won 2-0.”

Julian Brandt

has met the target from 25 meters away and

Youssoufa Moukoko

scored the second goal, which was his third this season, sealing his side’s three points. Can hailed his team-mate’s impressive performance, saying:

“Super that Jule unleashed a rocket like that. After that, it became slightly easier for us

Dortmund are pushing to get to the top four on the Bundesliga table and qualify for the

Champions League

next season. The 27-year-old believes for that to happen, they must go into each battle as if they are playing a knockout game.

We are feeling good and for the most part have been playing good football again this last week. And even when we haven't played well at times, we've worked well and won. That's how it must continue.

“We need to view every match as a knockout game, because we absolutely want to be involved in the Champions League next season. It's not going to be easy, but we have everything in our own hands. We simply need to take it game by game.”

Dortmund will take on

FC Koeln

on Saturday and Can is determined to win the game.

It’s nice that we'll now be able to have a bit of a breather and train a bit during the week. And then we need to go for it again on Saturday. We know what's awaiting us in Cologne – and we'll obviously try to win that game too.”
