Martin Keown suggests that Arteta drops Pepe and Odegaard

Former Arsenal player Martin Keown has suggested that Mikel Arteta should take Nicolas Pepe and Martin Odegaard out of the starting XI following their poor display in their 1-0 defeat against Manchester City on Sunday.

Manchester City

Mikel Arteta

’s lineup selection is raising questions for Arsenal supporters, with Emile Smith being removed from the starting XI notwithstanding his rich vein of form.

Martin Keown was not pleased with Arteta’s choice of including

Nicolas Pepe

and

Martin Odegaard

who failed to impress against City.

The Arsenal legend is confident that bringing

Smith Rowe

back would be a wise choice, whilst also referring to

Alexandre Lacazette

as a player who has more to offer than those two.

In an interview with Daily Mail, Keown said: “

It surprised me that Arsenal didn’t press Manchester City like they had pressed Leeds in their last home game.

“It was courtesy of their high press against Leeds that Arsenal won a penalty to make it 2-0. Emile Smith Rowe later picked up possession on the edge of the opposition box before assisting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to make it 4-0. Yesterday was different. Arsenal showed the visitors too much respect and City were allowed to dominate.

“For Mikel Arteta, the front four who finished this game are his best combination and they need to be starting matches. I’d like to see Aubameyang on the left, Alexandre Lacazette central, Bukayo Saka on the right and Smith Rowe in behind.”
