Webb on Smith Rowe’s development at Huddersfield
The Championship chief believes Smith Rowe’s time in his club helped the footballer develop as a Gunners player.
According to
Huddersfieldchief, David Webb,
Arsenalhave be benefiting from
Emile Smith Rowe’s progress as a player after he spent a while as the Championship side’s loanee for a while.
The 20-year-old, who joined Huddersfield following a limited game time with the Gunners, has emerged as one Arsenal’s most prominent players in the 2020-21 campaign following
Mesut Ozil’s exit.
Though there have been some talks of competition with Martin Odegaard’s arrival and Arsenal’s interest in
Jack Grealishand
Houssem Aouar, Smith Rowe remains one of the Gunners important assets, insists Webb.
“It was a different challenge for him altogether at Huddersfield and I think it really helped him,”
Webb told
BBC Sport
.
“The training was quite competitive and physical, which he enjoyed and he took it on to the pitch. He was getting knocked and kicked and bullied about a bit, but he took it all in his stride.”
“That really developed his fighting spirit, which has helped him now because he came into Arsenal when they were in a bit of a dip and they needed that.”
Former Arsenal defender, Matthew Upson, also talked to
BBC Sport
about the player, saying:
“He does not play like he is nervous.”
“He plays with real freedom and he expresses himself well. To say he is shy shows how different personalities come out on the pitch.”
With 13 appearances for Arsenal, Smith Rowe currently has two goals and three assists with the Premier League side.
