Inter defender says the win against Milan sent a message to the rivals

Milan Skriniar says Inter sent a caution message to their opponents with their derby triumph against Milan and clarifies why he was not furious regardless of his short playing time last season.

The 25-year-old Slovak has played 22 games in all rivalries so far this season, yet Antonio Conte was reluctant to pick him for Inter's lineup toward the finish of the 2019-20 season.

“I didn’t play in

Europa League

, where Inter were successful. I was not part of the regular starters,” Skriniar told sport.sk.

“Despite that, I was not angry. On the contrary, I tried to help the team as much as I could. I know it was difficult to get game time in that moment, but the situation has changed now and I think it will remain as it is in the future.”

The Nerazzurri endured a 2-1 home thrashing against Juventus in the first leg of the

Coppa Italia

semi-final on Tuesday. However, they had beaten the Old Lady and Rossoneri in

Serie A

couple of days sooner.

“The victory against Juve was important because Inter hadn’t won against them for long time. It was very important for our fans,” he said.

“The win against Milan served as a message for them and for the other opponents, we are ready to fight until the end and earn a place among the best clubs.

“We are Inter and we have a great team. We have been talking modestly about the Serie A titles. At the same time, it’s natural to compete for the most important targets.

“We are doing well, the same club has been winning [the title] over the last nine years and it’s something we’d like to change.”
