Juan Gaspart wants to pay ‘unfair’ fine on behalf of Messi

The Argentine was fined €600 for his tribute to late Diego Maradona

The football world became united to pay tribute to the late icon,

Diego Armando Maradona

, who passed away suffering a heart attack last week.

Barcelona superstar,

Lionel Messi,

played under

Maradona

between 2008 and 2010, and both Argentines are contenders for the ‘best player ever’ title.

Messi

used his goal celebration during the 4-0 win over

Osasuna

to pay a touching tribute to the fellow Argentine legend. He took off his shirt to reveal a special shirt he had worn underneath, the number ten

Newell’s

shirt from the season Maradona spent there.

However, Messi was fined for the action. The former Barcelona president,

Juan Gaspart

, is outraged by the decision and wants to pay the fine on behalf of Messi.

“I do not rule out sending €600 to the RFEF and telling them that I’m paying the fine they have given Leo for showing the shirt,”

he said.

“I will explain why, because of the tremendous love I had for Diego Armando Maradona and the love I have for Leo Messi. It’s not fair.”
