Tottenham can release Espirito Santo next summer

The Spurs boss has experienced a mixed start to his career at Tottenham.

Nuno Espirito Santo replaced Jose Mourinho at Tottenham earlier this summer after the Spurs ended their extended search for a new manager. The former Wolves boss was reportedly down on the Spurs’ wish-list, with Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca, and Gennaro Gattuso all being heavily linked with the club.

Espirito Santo signed a contract with Tottenham until 2023, which generated doubts over the club’s trust in his plans. The newest report about the contract further intensifies this suspicion.

According to

The Athletic

, there is a clause in Espirito Santo’s contract that enables the Spurs to sack the Portuguese boss if the team doesn’t deliver a top-six finish this season.

The Spurs are currently eighth in the Premier League, having collected 12 points from seven matches. After a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa on Sunday, Espirito Santo’s side will face Newcastle in their next league game on October 17.
