Chelsea Flying High: Lukaku Return in Action

Chelsea fans will have been happy to see their side defeat local rivals Arsenal by two goals last Sunday. The game turned out to be a brilliant display of teamwork and attacking prowess by the Blues, and a lesson in defeat by Arsenal.

Ever since Thomas Tuchel took over the reins of the club, Chelsea have simply gone from success to success, culminating in the Champions League trophy earlier this year. Much of this can be attributed to the manager, though the players on the pitch have all developed into much better athletes over the last few years. This notion is especially true when it comes to the case of Romelu Lukaku, who recently arrived at Chelsea following a spell at Inter Milan.

Chelsea had been lacking a clear goalscoring presence for some time. The likes of Giroud, Higuain, and even Tammy Abraham were brought in to try and solve this issue, to lingering success. All those strikers have now gone from the club, likely because they did not have the quality that a striker at Chelsea football club needs. The most recent person that checked that box was Diego Costa, who had a distinct personality and a hunger for goals. Following his departure, the transfer of Lukaku represents those qualities and more. Lukaku had previously joined Chelsea in 2011 but was let go after

not scoring a goal in fifteen appearances

. Now older, wiser, and better, Lukaku has returned with something to prove.

The game on Sunday saw what can be described as a hammering by Chelsea. The Blues travelled to the Emirates to face their opponents, making the win that little bit sweeter. On the day, Lukaku was simply too much to manage for the Arsenal defenders. This was seen most clearly when Lukaku managed to score within 15 minutes of the game starting. Great holdup play was seen by the Belgian forward, and after he passed the ball off and sprinted into the box, he scored a tap in by smashing Pablo Mari to the ground in the process. Lukaku is a striker renowned for his incredible physique which defines his playstyle, a traditional target man who can turn and finish at will.

Two games out of two is promising for Chelsea fans this season and if the last two performances are anything to go by, then they should be in for a treat. Despite missing out on original transfer target Erling Haaland, the arrival of Lukaku and his recent performance should give fans a glimmer of glory. They are up there with the best teams of Europe and even the likes of Manchester City and Bayern Munich will have a tough time breaking them down. Chelsea currently stand at 5/2 to win the premier league, this can be accessed

, which is indicative of the kind of season Chelsea are expected to have.

It is clear that Lukaku has given Chelsea a return on their investment already, and fans will appreciate having a renowned striker that will promise around 20 goals a season. With the acquisition of the Belgian, Chelsea have sent a clear message of intent that they are ready to dominate football at the highest level.
