Lyon in talks to sign Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri

The Chelsea left-back has been heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge ahead of the transfer window deadline.

Having left Roma on a €20m deal,

Emerson Palmieri

joined Chelsea in 2018. Despite being mainly used as a backup option, the Italian full-back managed to get enough game time during his first two seasons at Chelsea. However, the former Roma star found himself behind Marcos Alonso and Ben Chilwell in the pecking order last season. After winning the Euro 2020 title with the Azzurri, Emerson is keen to become part of Italy’s squad for the upcoming Qatar World Cup.

According to

Sky Sports

, Lyon are in talks with Chelsea over the transfer of Emerson. Lyon's left-back

Maxwel Cornet

has attracted interest from Burnley, with Emerson being targeted as his replacement in the French side's lineup.

Having previously worked under Luciano Spalletti, Emerson is also linked with a move to Napoli. In an interview on Monday, the 27-year-old expressed his excitement over Napoli’s interest.

“It’s a great pleasure to know about this interest from Napoli,”

Emerson told

ESPN Brazil

.<em>

"It’s a great club, not only in Italy.

“I’m even happier, given how little I played for Chelsea last season. I want to play, to stay on the pitch, I will do everything to play the cards right.

“I have a deal with Chelsea, it’s a great club, I have already shown that I can play here. I would like to be important again for the team, as I have already been.

“I don’t care about the position, I’ve always been at the coach’s disposal, but last year I had little space and I couldn’t choose.”

Chelsea are determined to sell Emerson before the transfer window deadline on August 31. Following their 3-0 win over Crystal Palace, the Blues will face Arsenal in their second 2021-22 league match on Sunday.
