‘I wasn’t 100 percent ready for Roma move’, says Patrik Schick

Patrik Schick is experiencing his best form with Czeck republic at Euro 2020 and admits he was too young for his big move to Roma.

The 25-year-old first made his mark at

Sampdoria

in 2016, earning a transfer to

Roma

in 2017.

The

Bayer Leverkusen

striker's performance at Euro 2020 showed exactly why he is seen as one of the most talented young players in European football, and showed why he has been so in-demand, leading Roma to secure his services in 2017.

However, he failed to nail down a first-team regular and was moved to

RB Leipzig

on loan in the 2019/20 campaign before he signed for

Bayer Leverkusen

that summer.

“I was 20 years old when I arrived in Italy,” said Schick after his three goals in two Euro 2020 matches.

“The first season at Sampdoria was very good. Then I moved to Roma, one of the most important clubs in Italy. There were so many expectations around me and I was just a kid.

“Perhaps I wasn’t 100 percent ready for that move. These things can happen in football. I don’t know what was wrong, but maybe I just wasn’t ready.”
