Former Juventus and Real Madrid midfielder Khedira retires

Sami Khedira, a former Juventus midfielder, has announced his retirement from football at the age of 34.

The Germany international is currently playing for Hertha Berlin, where he has only made eight appearances and contributed two assists.

From 2020 to 2015, he spent the majority of his career with Real Madrid, before moving to Juventus from 2015 to February 2021.

Injuries plagued his career, and he only made 145 appearances for the Bianconeri in five years.

Khedira led Juventus to five

Serie A

cups, three Coppa Italia trophies, and one Italian Supercup with 21 goals and 13 assists.

"Exactly 14 years ago to the day I was allowed to celebrate the championship with VfB Stuttgart. That was a wonderful day, today is one that is very difficult for me personally, because my football career will be over on Saturday at around 5:15 pm." said Khedira

"It's a pretty tough step and it's hard for me to talk about, but it's the right decision. Fifteen years in professional football have left their mark and I have to honestly judge what I can and cannot do.

"First of all, I would like to gain some distance and relax. I will stay with football, in what form it will be remains to be seen."

He has won the

Champions League

with Real Madrid and the 2014 World Cup with Germany.
