Pirlo on Juve’s tactics against Cagliari and Ronaldo’s foul
The Old Lady boss explained their tricky tactic for the night as they celebrated their win with a hat-trick from Ronaldo.
Andrea Pirlo insists that
Cristiano Ronaldo’s clash with
Cagliari’s
Alessio Cragnowas resulted by the two players’ unawareness of the distance between them as he explained the tactics used in Bianconeri’s 3-1 win against their opponents.
This win came after the Old Lady’s Champions League exit at the hands of
Portowith a hat-trick from Ronaldo in the first 32 minutes of the game.
When asked about their victory, Pirlo told
Sky Sport Italia
:
“It was the right approach, which we needed after failing to qualify the other day, and we started on the right foot.”
Talking about their tricky tactic, which seemed as a mixture of both 3-5-2 and 4-4-2 line-up, he added:
“Danilo is an intelligent player who can have his say in any role. We are trying him here at the moment because we know he can make an impact there.”
“We had three in defense in possession, with Juan Cuadrado pushing up and Dejan Kulusevski coming more inside. We defend with four, but then play out from the back with three.”
“The idea was to leave gaps for Cuadrado to push up, bringing Kulusevski more central. Kulusevski can be more in midfield in future, we had to use him as a second striker to make up for absences.”
“Naturally, once we have two genuine strikers upfront, our game works better.”
Before scoring his second and third goal, Ronaldo was caught in a dangerous play, which led to Cragno ending up with a cut chin.
“I think it was a classic situation during play, both of them were looking at the ball and didn’t realize how close they were,”
continued Pirlo.
Tonight’s win not only marked Ronaldo’s 57th career hat-trick, but it was also believed to be a response to everyone, who blamed the Portuguese for Juve’s Champions League elimination.
“He was angry the same way everyone was after the missed qualification, but he did his talking on the pitch with three goals and that’s all that matters,”
added Pirlo.
“All we can do is focus on our own results, getting as many points as possible, winning as many games as possible and then at the end seeing where we are.”
