Style of Play

Dzeko is known for his aerial skill, strength, and physical appearance. Considered one of the best strikers in Europe by analysts and coaches, while he is primarily known for his goalscoring skills, he is also a generous player who, in addition to scoring many goals, has a knack for providing a decent number of assists.

He is also famous for firing the ball fairly well from both feet. He posted outstanding goalscoring statistics everywhere he played, playing primarily as a striker.

After the Serie A side negotiated a fee with Manchester City, Roma fans were planning for the arrival of Edin Dzeko on Thursday night.

Just a week after several hundred fans had flocked to Mohamed Salah's already congested Fiumicino airport to welcome the city, Dzeko was scheduled to cause similar enthusiasm, with up to a thousand fans expected to attend.

Information of his arrival was released by La Repubblica, claiming Dzeko was scheduled to arrive at 7:25 p.m. on a flight from Amsterdam. Until setting out to sign his contract, local time.

The 29-year-old will be available to make his Roma debut in Saturday's friendly match against Valencia in Spain should everything go according to schedule.

Dzeko was born to Bosnian parents, Midhat and Belma, in Sarajevo, SR Bosnia, and Herzegovina, then part of SFR Yugoslavia. He said that during his career, his family was always supportive, especially his father, who took him to training sessions when he was at Zeljeznicar.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, his father also played professionally. In Sarajevo, Dzeko is considered a local superstar. Dzeko is multilingual and fluently speaks five languages: Bosnian, Czech, German, English, and Italian. He's a Moslem.

Dzeko said that his favorite club was always Milan, and his favorite player was Andriy Shevchenko. He still has a Milan jersey with the number 7 (worn by Shevchenko at the club) on the wall of his room at his home in Sarajevo.

Dzeko is a former fellow national team player's first cousin and a former captain, Emir Spahic. Dzeko became Bosnia's first UNICEF ambassador in November 2009.

He has also toured schools and children impacted by the Bosnian War in his home country. On 6 July 2012, Dzeko was admitted to study sport and physical education at Sarajevo University.

Dzeko graduated from the University of Sarajevo on 10 September 2018 with a bachelor's degree. Since 2011, he has had a relationship with the model and actress, Amra Silajdzic, who married her in 2014.

He became the father of a girl named Una in February 2016. On 9 September 2017, his second child, a boy named Dani, was born. On Instagram, the pair revealed that they are expecting their third child, a baby girl.

The pair welcomed their second daughter, Dalia, on 12 September 2020. Dzeko tested positive for COVID-19 in the middle of its pandemic in Italy on 6 November 2020; it had recovered by 23 November.

Family, Children, Relationship

Dzeko married his mother, Amra Silajdzic, a Bosnian model and actress, on 31 March 2014. She's 2 years older than her husband. Amra was once married to Vladimir Vicijentijevic, a very young Serbian businessman, with whom she had a fourteen-year-old daughter, Sofia.

They both knew that it was easier to have a successful divorce than a terrible marriage and everybody went on their way. Are Silajdzic and Edina Dzeke's love affair started in 2012 when he was in Manchester City.

They were quiet for nearly a year, speculating about their relationship, and their relationship was confirmed by posting pictures on Twitter.

He became the father of a girl named Una in February 2016. In September 2017, his second child, a boy named Dani, was born.

Philanthropy

We showed you photographs earlier this week of Dzeko meeting a fellow Bosnian boy at a hospital who had been flown to Manchester for a life-saving procedure, along with defender Nemanja Vidic of the United States.

The City striker purchased the boy's toys, raised his spirits, and even bought the boy's mother's phone to ring their families back home.

He did not only end there, however. He wanted to place two of his matchday t-shirts on eBay for sale with messages written on the front-you may recall the one he showed after scoring against Arsenal.

On New Year's Day, the other t-shirt was worn against Stoke, where he even got on the score sheet in a 3-0 win. In his native tongue, the message on the shirts is 'About my friends'.

The auction began at US$10,000 and all profits will go to a charity named Bjelave, an orphanage charity in his hometown of Sarajevo.

Legal issues

Judge Thomas F. Hogan of the U.S. on August 15, an injunction revoking the naturalized U.S. citizenship of a convicted war criminal was filed by the District Court for the District of Columbia.

The court ruled that, by concealment of actual evidence and intentional misrepresentation, defendant Edin Dzeko, a native of the former Yugoslavia, gained his U.S. citizenship unlawfully.

The court's order was based, in part, on Dzeko's acknowledgment that at his naturalization interview he misrepresented and withheld his military experience on immigration forms and deceived while under oath. 

Stated Acting Assistant Attorney General Chad A. "Readler: "War criminals are not entitled to safe harbor in the United States, and we will not encourage our immigration system to take advantage of persons who commit such crimes."

This case sends the message that the Department will remain determined in our commitment to unfairly prosecute those who pursue or have attained U.S. citizenship. 

The United States said, "This case shows that the United States will safeguard the integrity of its refugee programs," Jessie K. Liu's solicitor. "We will continue to target war criminals working with our law enforcement partners who attempt to abuse the process to gain entry into our country."

Dzeko began his career between 2003 and 2005 as a midfielder for Zeljeznicar, but he had no luck playing there. His height and poor technical expertise became incredibly common. Jiri Plisek, Dzeko's coach at the time, noticed his talent and urged Teplice FC to purchase him immediately.

VfL Wolfsburg

Dzeko celebrates VfL Wolfsburg's Bundesliga victory in 2009 After transferring to Wolfsburg, Dzeko scored five goals in 11 games and registered three assists.

In the first half of the 2007–08 Bundesliga season, he was also named the best striker by Sportal. Wolfsburg finished in the fifth position during its first season in Germany, qualifying for a UEFA Cup spot for the 2008-09 season. In the 2007-08 season, Dzeko finished with eight goals and seven assists in 17 games.

Dzeko's results improved dramatically in the 2008–09 season after Wolfsburg signed fellow Bosnian international Misimovic in July 2008.

Edin netted five goals during the first half of this season and added seven assists, but the whole team dramatically improved during the winter break, with Dzeko contributing 21 goals and adding three more assists.

This was particularly noticeable during the 10-game winning streak from 7 February to 26 April 2009, in which 11 goals were scored and 1 assist was added.

Dzeko scored a hat-trick against Hoffenheim in May 2009, and again, just two weeks later, against Hannover 96, adding a total of 26 goals and 10 assists to the team title-winning 2008-09 campaign in 32 league matches.

He scored six goals in two matches in the DFB-Pokal, and four goals and two assists in eight matches in the UEFA Cup as the club reached the tournament finals.

These results resulted in the Bundesliga Players' Footballer of the Year award is given to him. Dzeko agreed to stay despite drawing interest from AC Milan, renewing his deal until June 2013.

Manchester City

After strong speculation, Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini announced on 3 January 2011 that a fee of £ 27 million (EUR 32 million) had been negotiated with Wolfsburg for Dzeko, the second-highest transfer figure for City, after Robinho's move from 

Real Madrid in 2008 of £ 32.5 million (EUR 42.5 million). The transfer fee at the time was the 6th largest in the history of the Premier League.

The Bundesliga record departure transfer fee, the Bosnian record transfer fee, as well as any player from former Yugoslavia at the time all broke the number.

For over a decade, the previous former Yugoslav milestone was the transfer fee paid in 1999 by Real Madrid to Fenerbahçe for Elvir Baljic (EUR 26 million).

He agreed to a new four-year deal with the club in August 2014, taking his contract to 2018. He traveled to Manchester on 5 January after his medical test in London, and on 7 January, Dzeko was announced as a Manchester City player, joining the club on a four-and-a-half-year contract.

Roma

After months of uncertainty during the summer transfer market of 2015, on 12 August 2015, Dzeko formally signed a EUR 4 million loan for Serie A outfit Roma with a EUR 11 million purchase option that would become obligatory after certain performance-related milestones had been reached.

On 1 October 2015, these clauses were triggered, making Dzeko a permanent Roma participant. Ten days after his transfer from Manchester City, he made his Serie A debut, playing the whole of a 1-1 draw at Hellas Verona, and on 30 August, in his second start, he scored the winning goal in the 79th minute to beat reigning champions Juventus 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico.

He scored his first brace for Roma on 21 February 2016, scoring the first and last goals in a 5–0 victory over Palermo.

International career

For his home country, Dzeko's first appearance came with the Bosnia and Herzegovina national under-19 football team. He was also a member of the under-21 squad that participated in the 2007 UEFA European Under-21 Championship play-offs hosted by the Netherlands.

Armenia under-21 and Norway under-21 were Bosnia's first obstacles in this competition. They defeated Armenia 3-2 and played 1-1 with Norway, qualifying for the playoff against the under-21 Czech Republic. Bosnia lost 2–1 in the first leg; the game resulted in a 1–1 draw in the second. In the tournament, Dzeko scored one point.

On 2 June 2007, he made his senior debut against Turkey. It was a memorable debut for the player during the first-half stoppage time, scoring a volleyed shot. At 2-2, the goal leveled the score and Bosnia went on to win 3-2.

On 28 March 2009, during a match against Belgium in Genk in which he scored a spectacular goal, Bosnian sports analyst Marjan Mijajlovic called Dzeko "the Bosnian Diamond".

In the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying, he scored nine goals and ended as the second-highest goalscorer in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying, tied with Wayne Rooney of England, behind the 10 goals of Greek striker Theofanis Gekas.

Dzeko scored his first hat-trick for the national team on 8 September 2012, in an 8-1 victory over Liechtenstein, thus becoming the top goal scorer in the history of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team with 24 goals.

Elvir Bolic, who scored 22 goals, previously held the record. As Bosnia and Herzegovina qualified for the first major tournament in its history, Dzeko finished the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign as the second-top scorer with ten goals.
