must be Italian. That’s not so, although most of them are. There are footballers from Brazil, Argentina, Sweden and even Hungary on the list and even on top of the list like Gunnar Nordahl.

And as you might have guessed, many of the players on the list of Serie A top goal scorers ever have played some time in their career for one of these clubs: AS Roma, AC Milan,

and Juventus - actually the giants in the Italian football.

Not only the Italian Serie A top scorer of all time but also the oldest on the list - he’s 83 years old, Silvio Piola has scored 274 league goals during his footballing career and for these clubs between 1929 and 1954: Pro Vercelli (currently competes in Serie C), Lazio,

, and Novara. The first club (Pro Vercelli) competed in Serie A between 1929 and 1934 when Piola served them.

Piola has scored most of his Serie A goals for Lazio - actually 143. The 83-year-old retired Italian footballer made 537 Serie A appearances and scored 274 goals which gets him a goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.51 meaning that he has scored one goal in every two appearances he has made in Serie A.

Francesco Totti (250 Goals)

The Italian legend, Francesco Totti, is actually the second

highest goal scorer in Serie A of all time

after Silvio Piola with 250 goals. And the interesting fact about Totti is that he has only served one club, namely AS Roma, during his career and naturally has scored all his 250 Serie A goals for them. Totti has made 618 league appearances for AS Roma between 1992 and 2017 and as already mentioned scored 250 goals for them.

So, the 43-year-old retired Italian forward gets a goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.4 meaning that he has scored exactly two goals for AS Roma in every 5 appearances he has had for them in

Totti is one of the most decorated Italian footballers with a number of titles and trophies to his name including Serie A Top Scorer in 2006-07 season, European Golden Shoe in the same season, and Serie A Footballer of the Year in 2000 and 2003.

Gunnar Nordahl (225 Goals)

The first non-Italian footballer on the list of Serie A top scorers of all time, Gunnar Nordahl is a retired Swedish footballer who has scored 225 goals in Serie A during his footballing career and only for two clubs: AS Roma and

And Altafini has scored all his 216 Serie A goals in the 459 appearances he has made between 1958 and 1976 for AC Milan,

The second Italian footballer after Alessandro Del Piero on the list of Serie A top scorers of all time who has scored all his Serie A goals and in fact all his club career goals for only Juventus, Giampiero Boniperti has actually scored 178 goals - 10 goals less than Alessandro Del Piero - for the Bianconeri (The black and whites) during his footballing career.

And all these 178 goals were scored in the 443 Serie A appearances that Boniperti made for Juventus between 1946 and 1961. That gets the 92-year-old former Italian forward a goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.4 which means he has scored 2 goals in every 5 appearances he has made in Serie A.

Amedeo Amadei (174 Goals)

The first footballer on the list of Serie A highest goal scorers of all time who is no more alive, Amedeo Amadei passed away on November 24, 2013 at the age of 92. He’s actually the 12th Italian major league top scorer of all time with 174 goals he scored for

, Inter Milan, and Napoli during his footballing career that lasted from 1936 to 1956.

Amadei’s goal-to-appearance ratio is 0.41 - he scored his 174 Serie A goals in 423 appearances. That means he scored a little bit more than two goals in every five appearances he had in Serie A.

And he scored almost twice as much goals for AS Roma - actually 85 goals - compared to the two other Italian clubs, namely Inter Milan and

, for whom he scored 42 and 47 goals respectively.

Giuseppe Savoldi (168 Goals)

168 Goals in 405 Serie A appearances; that actually gets Giuseppe Savoldi a goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.41 - exactly the same as that of Amedeo Amadei’s - which means he has also scored a little bit more than two goals in every five appearances he has made in the major Italian league.

And like Amadei, Savoldi has also scored all his Serie A goals for only three clubs (

, Bologna, and Napoli) although these clubs are not exactly the same clubs Amadei served during his footballing career.

However, unlike Amadei, Savoldi is still alive - he’s 73 years old by now and perhaps should be honored to be on the list of

Italian major league highest goal scorers of all time

. It should be noted that the 73-year-old retired Italian forward became Serie A top scorer in 1972-73 season; an honor Amadei never achieved during his footballing career.

Guglielmo Gabetto (167 Goals)

Perhaps you will find no other footballer on the list of Serie A top scorers of all time that have scored the same number of goals for the clubs he has served during his career, but Guglielmo Gabetto almost did it. From all his 167 Serie A goals, he scored 87 goals for

The 15th footballer on the list of Serie A highest goal scorers of all time, Fabio Quagliarella has scored a total of 164 goals in his 467 Serie A appearances for 6 clubs, namely Sampdoria,

, Juventus, Torino, Napoli, and Ascoli, which gets him a goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.35 meaning that he has scored a little bit more than 2 goals in every 6 appearances he has had in Serie A - between 1999 till today.

Despite his age (37), Quagliarella is still in the business and currently plays as a forward for

That means Luca Toni has also scored 2 goals in every 4 Serie A appearances he has made just like Roberto Boninsegna. And from all the Serie A clubs he has served, he has scored the most number of goals for two clubs, namely Fiorentina and
