Serie A Top Scorers of All Time

Serie A top scorers of all time; All of them have scored more than 100 goals but none more than 300, although the top of the list, Silvio Piola, have neared that number with a total of 274 goals. The list of Serie A highest goal scorers of all time continues with Francesco Totti with 250 goals.

But what about the rest of the list? You might think that all

Serie A top goal scorers of all time

must be Italian. That’s not so, although most of them are. There are footballers from Brazil, Argentina, Sweden and even Hungary on the list and even on top of the list like Gunnar Nordahl.

And as you might have guessed, many of the players on the list of Serie A top goal scorers ever have played some time in their career for one of these clubs: AS Roma, AC Milan,

Inter Milan

and Juventus - actually the giants in the Italian football.

Italian Serie A Top Scorers of All Time List Starts with…

As you know and mentioned above, the list of Serie A top scorers of all time starts with Silvio Piola who is by now 83 years old and have scored 274 goals during his footballing career. Stay with us if you like to know about the rest of the list.

Silvio Piola (274 Goals)

Not only the Italian Serie A top scorer of all time but also the oldest on the list - he’s 83 years old, Silvio Piola has scored 274 league goals during his footballing career and for these clubs between 1929 and 1954: Pro Vercelli (currently competes in Serie C), Lazio,

Juventus

, and Novara. The first club (Pro Vercelli) competed in Serie A between 1929 and 1934 when Piola served them.

Piola has scored most of his Serie A goals for Lazio - actually 143. The 83-year-old retired Italian footballer made 537 Serie A appearances and scored 274 goals which gets him a goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.51 meaning that he has scored one goal in every two appearances he has made in Serie A.

Francesco Totti (250 Goals)

The Italian legend, Francesco Totti, is actually the second

highest goal scorer in Serie A of all time

after Silvio Piola with 250 goals. And the interesting fact about Totti is that he has only served one club, namely AS Roma, during his career and naturally has scored all his 250 Serie A goals for them. Totti has made 618 league appearances for AS Roma between 1992 and 2017 and as already mentioned scored 250 goals for them.

So, the 43-year-old retired Italian forward gets a goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.4 meaning that he has scored exactly two goals for AS Roma in every 5 appearances he has had for them in

Serie A

.

Totti is one of the most decorated Italian footballers with a number of titles and trophies to his name including Serie A Top Scorer in 2006-07 season, European Golden Shoe in the same season, and Serie A Footballer of the Year in 2000 and 2003.

Gunnar Nordahl (225 Goals)

The first non-Italian footballer on the list of Serie A top scorers of all time, Gunnar Nordahl is a retired Swedish footballer who has scored 225 goals in Serie A during his footballing career and only for two clubs: AS Roma and

AC Milan

.

He has also the highest goal-to-appearance ratio on the list of highest goal scorers in Serie A ever: 0.77 which means he has scored almost 3 goals in every 4 appearances he has had in Serie A.

The above ratio has actually resulted from dividing 225 goals the retried Swedish forward has scored by the 291 appearances he has had in Serie A. And from all these 225 goals, 210 have been scored for AC Milan which means Nordahl has scored 93% of his Serie A goals for the Rossoneri (The Red and Blacks).

Giuseppe Meazza (216 Goals)

Another retired Italian footballer on the list of

Serie A top scorers of all time

, Giuseppe Meazza, aged 68 by now, has scored all his Serie A goals for only three clubs: Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Juventus - Serie A giants, and from all these goals 197 have been scored for Inter Milan meaning that the retired Italian forward has scored 91% of his Serie A goals for the Nerazzurri (The Black and Blues).

And all these goals (216) have been scored in 367 appearances Meazza has had between 1929 and 1947 in Serie A. So the 68-year-old retired Italian footballer gets a goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.59 meaning that he has scored almost 3 goals in every 5 appearances he has had in Serie A.

Jose Altafini (216 Goals)

The first footballer with dual nationality on the list of Serie A top scorers of all time - he’s both Italian and Brazilian, Jose Altafini has scored the same number of Serie A goals as Giuseppe Meazza (216) and therefore shares the same position (4th) on the list with the 68-year-old retired Italian forward.

And Altafini has scored all his 216 Serie A goals in the 459 appearances he has made between 1958 and 1976 for AC Milan,

Napoli

, and Juventus.

That means the 82-year-old former Italian-Brazilian footballer gets a goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.47 which means, in turn, that he has scored almost one goal in every two appearances he has had in Serie A. And more than 50% of these goals - actually 125 - have been scored for AC Milan.

Antonio Di Natale (209 Goals)

The fifth on the list of Serie A top scorers of all time and the first footballer on the same list who has never served one of the Italian major league giants, AC Milan, Inter Milan,

AS Roma

, and Juventus, Antonio Di Natale has scored all his Serie A goals - actually 209 goals - for only two clubs: Empoli and Udinese and between 2002 and 2016.

Di Natale has scored this number of goals (209) in the 445 appearances he has had for the two

Serie A

clubs mentioned above which gets him a goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.47 meaning that he has scored almost one goal in every two Serie A appearances he has made.

The 42-year-old retired Italian footballer became Serie A top scorer in two consecutive seasons, namely in 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons, and Serie A Italian Footballer of the Year in 2010.

Roberto Baggio (205 Goals)

And all these goals (205) have been scored from 1985 to 2004 in the 452 appearances Baggio has made for the above-mentioned clubs. That actually gets him a goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.45 meaning that he has scored almost 1 goal (exactly 0.9 goal) in every two appearances he has made in Serie A.

Kurt Hamrin (190 Goals)

The second Swedish footballer after Gunnar Nordahl on the list of Serie A top scorers of all time, Kurt Hamrin, is the 85-year-old former Swedish winger who managed to score 190 goals in his 400 appearances for Serie A clubs,

Juventus

, Padova, Fiorentina, AC Milan, and Napoli from 1956 to 1971.

That actually gets the Swedish former footballer a goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.48 which means he has scored almost one goal in every two Serie A appearances he has made.

From among 190 Serie A goals Hamrin has scored 78% were for

Fiorentina

 - actually 150 out of 190 goals. Hamrin is also the second Fiorentina all-time top scorer after Gabriel Batistuta with only two goals behind him - Batistuta has scored 152 goals for Fiorentina during his career.

And like Amadei, Savoldi has also scored all his Serie A goals for only three clubs (

Atalanta

, Bologna, and Napoli) although these clubs are not exactly the same clubs Amadei served during his footballing career.

However, unlike Amadei, Savoldi is still alive - he’s 73 years old by now and perhaps should be honored to be on the list of

Juventus

 and 80 goals for Torino.

Unfortunately Gabetto died at the age of 33 in a plane crash (1949 Superga air disaster) and therefore could be considered as the second dead footballer after Amedeo Amadei on the list of Serie A top goal scorers ever.

His Serie A goal-to-appearance ratio is 0.52 - he scored his 167 Serie A goals in 322 appearances, which means he scored a little bit more than one goal in every two appearances he made in Serie A.
