Arsenal agrees £12m fee with Chelsea for Jorginho

Arsenal is set to sign Chelsea midfielder Jorginho on the transfer deadline day.

According to the Athletic,

Arsenal

has reached an agreement with

Chelsea

over the signing of

Jorginho

in a deal worth £12m. The Italian midfielder will sign a one-and-a-half-year contract with Arsenal, with an option to extend by 1 year. Jorginho will be at Arsenal training ground today to undergo a medical.

Fabrizio Romano also has confirmed that Arsenal and Chelsea have reached an agreement over the transfer of Jorginho. Romano claims that Mikel Arteta played a huge role in this transfer and convinced Arsenal’s directors to sign the 31- year-old midfielder.

Arsenal wanted to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, but the English club rejected their offers. The Gunners made a £60 million bid on Friday and then increased their offer to £65 million plus £5 million in add-ons, but Brighton insisted that they have no intention to sell Caicedo.

After Arsenal lost their hope in signing Caicedo, they turned their attention to Chelsea midfielder Jorginho on Monday. Jorginho’s contract with Chelsea will expire at the end of the season, with negotiations not being successful.

Jorginho joined Chelsea from Napoli in 2018. He has scored 29 goals in 213 matches and won four trophies with the Blues, including the Champions League and Europe League.

Arsenal has already signed Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior in January. Arteta's side is five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table with one game in hand.
