Reece James confirms missing the World Cup: "Good luck to the boys”

After being sidelined for two months due to a knee injury in October, the English fullback was hopeful to fight the time for a fast recovery to represent England in the Qatar World Cup. However, James confirms his hopes for World Cup are over.

Reece James

was substituted during Chelsea's 2-0 Champions League victory against Milan in October as the Blues announced later that the right-back will undertake a two-month "rehabilitation course."

Although the right-back was optimistic about fast injury recovery, the 22-year-old conceded he will not return to fitness in time on Wednesday.

The England international

wrote on social media:

"Devastated. The minute I injured my knee, I knew the turnaround to make the World Cup would be tight, but I always felt it was possible.

"I've worked harder than I ever thought I could to give myself the best chance of going and truly believed I could help the team.

"I appreciate there was risk on both sides but it was one I was willing to take.

"Good luck to the boys. I'll be back soon. Stay safe and sending love."

With

Kyle Walker

also in doubt to be fit for Qatar World Cup, Liverpool's

Trent Alexander-Arnold

is likely to be Gareth Southgate's driving force at right-back.
