Arsenal’s squad clear-out continues as Pablo Mari joins Monza on loan

Despite an eye-catching €6m move from Flamengo in July 2020, Mari ended up as a flop as he managed to make only 22 appearances for the Gunners, The club confirms the 28-year-old centre-back will spend the next season on loan at Monza as the Gunners' squad clear-out continues.

Failing to make an impression at Emirates Stadium, Arsenal confirmed the 28-year-old defender will join the newly-promoted Serie A outfit

Monza

on a season-long loan.

Goal

reports that

Pablo Mari

's loan dean contains a compulsory purchase clause of £5.9m if the newly-promoted Serie A side can avoid relegation.

Despite being Arteta's first signing as

Arsenal

manager in January 2020, the arrival of Ben White in the summer of 2021 moved Mari down the pecking order. He spent the second half of the last season on loan at

Udinese

as well.

The Gunners

' clear-out started with the departure of the midfielders Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira, who joined Marseille and Galatasaray, respectively. Bernd Leno sealed a permanent transfer to Fulham for an £8m fee as

Alexandre Lacazette

returned to Lyon on a free transfer. The London club is reportedly continuing the clear-out as they are willing to sell Runar Alex Runarsson, Hector Bellerin, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, and Reiss Nelson, who have no plan in Arteta’s plans.

Pablo Mari joined Arsenal on loan from

Flamengo

in January 2020, before making the move permanent next summer. He made 22 appearances for the Gunners, scoring once.
