Mourinho says Europa Conference League is 'Roma's Champions League'

After leading Roma to the Europa Conference League final, Jose Mourinho expressed his desire to deliver trophies to the Italian capital.

,

Jose Mourinho

expressed his ardent desire to bring silverware to

Roma

, declaring: "This is our Champions League."

After defeating

Leicester City

1-0 at the

Stadio Olimpico

to secure a 2-1 aggregate victory in the semis, the Italians will compete in the competition's first-ever final later this month. Following the game, the manager noted how important it was for Roma to win their first European trophy since winning the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1961.

He also stated that winning the Europa Conference League would be just as significant as winning one of Europe's most prestigious awards. "When you work in Rome, live in Rome, breathe Rome, and breathe this club because this club is the genuine club of the city," he told BT Sport.

"I've always thought it's a big club, as you can see, but there haven't been many victories or finals." The club's social dimension is unrelated to its history. We were able to put together a decent team that improved over time and could beat a Premier League team from a different dimension."

"As a result, I'm really emotional." Of course, I've had worse, but I'm not grieving for myself; I'm grieving for the people and my teammates. This is the Champions League for us." Meanwhile, Leicester manager

Brendan Rodgers

bemoaned his team's defensive frailty at the corner, which resulted in Tammy Abraham's 11th-minute winner.

"The corner has been our Achilles' heel all season," he remarked. To defend, we've tried everything from man-marking to zonal. Clearly, we lack the physicality in the team to consistently deal with certain circumstances, and it cost us tonight."

As the Foxes attempt to bounce back next season, the former Liverpool manager hinted that changes could be on the cards. "We have to finish well now and seek to improve in the summer to challenge again next season," he said.
