Kuyt says the race between Liverpool and Man City is at a high level

Dirk Kuyt spent six seasons with Liverpool and is looking forward to his old club's effort to win the quadruple.

Dirk Kuyt

, a former

Liverpool

forward, has described the lofty peaks attained by the Reds and Premier League title rivals

Manchester City

as "incredible." Kuyt was a Liverpool player from 2006 to 2012, winning the EFL Cup in his final season.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have three more trophies in their sights to complete an unprecedented quadruple, having already won the same trophy this season. Liverpool are in the FA Cup final against

Chelsea

after beating City 3-2 at Wembley last week, are in the

Champions League semi-final

against

Villarreal

, and are just a point behind

Pep Guardiola

's club in the Premier League title chase.

Kuyt commended both title opponents' levels in an interview with Stats Perform, stating, "There's something changing whenever you face an opponent more than two or three times in a season, and that's what's happening with Liverpool and City right now."

"It's quite intriguing since Liverpool and City have already played two excellent games." City, in my opinion, was the better team in the Premier League encounter [a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium], but Liverpool clearly showed what they are capable of in the FA Cup semi-final.

"It's incredible how high these games are because I haven't seen any better games this season than the Liverpool and City games." In all categories, the Dutchman scored 67 goals in 281 games for Liverpool, with a particularly excellent record in Merseyside derbies, netting five goals in 11 Premier League outings versus Everton.

The Reds host Everton on Sunday, with the Toffees in the thick of a relegation battle, and Kuyt says the rivalry is on the minds of the city's residents. "You may feel it a week before," he explained. "So we're a couple of days away from the derby, and when I arrived in Liverpool this morning from Amsterdam, people were already talking about the derby, which is huge for the city."

"You have two families, one for Liverpool and one for Everton." So, yeah, it's a fantastic and very important game. I used to participate in these contests." Thankfully, I won more games than I lost, but it's still a big deal for Liverpool and the city. On Sunday, Liverpool will triumph once more.

"I was used to playing these types of games with Feyenoord and Ajax in Holland, and when I arrived at Liverpool, this game, along with the Man United game, was one of the most significant games of the season." I enjoy these types of games the most when everyone is completely engaged, so I had a great time and was pleased to score some vital goals."

When asked about his favorite derby memory, Kuyt mentioned the game at Goodison Park in the 2007-08 season, in which he scored two penalties, one in second-half stoppage time to win it, albeit he was also fortunate to avoid a red card for a challenge on Phil Neville early in the game.

"If I had to go back in time, it would be when I scored two penalties, one during [injury] time," he remarked. "And somewhere in the middle, I tried to kick someone, but luckily I didn't get a red card." "It was a fantastic game for me, and I'll never forget celebrating the winning goal with the supporters during [injury] time."
