Martinelli's destiny could have changed after failed Man Utd trial

The Brazilian star is having a good time at Arsenal and is one of the most effective players in the team.

Arsenal

star

Gabriel Martinelli

has stated that during his trial at Arsenal,

Manchester United

never told him they intended to sign him.

Arsenal signed Martinelli from Brazilian club Itvano in 2019 for € 7 million and he is considered one of the most talented players in Europe. The 20-year-old star is a key player in the starting line-up, but things could have changed for him after a failed audition at Old Trafford.

He told

The Athletic

:

"I actually had four different trials at United when I was 13, 14, 15 and 16," Martinelli has told

"This was in Manchester at the club’s training base, where I played in the same age group as Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams and I met first-team players, like Zlatan [Ibrahimovic], Paul Pogba, Wayne Rooney and Patrice Evra.

"There was never a moment, though, when they said they wanted me [to sign] there. But it give me a taste and made the adaptation a little easier because I had experienced football in England.

"Even after those trials, I always believed in myself. My mind is always thinking, ‘I can do it'.”

Martinelli has played 70 games for Arsenal and managed to score 16 goals for the team.
