Barcelona eyeing Gaya move for the next summer

The Catalans are keen to sign the Valencia left-back as a replacement for Jordi Alba.

Barcelona were

linked

with a move for Jose Gaya this summer, but they were not able to finalize a deal for the Spaniard. However, the Catalans remain interested in finding a replacement for

Jordi Alba

, who will turn 33 next summer.

According to

Mundo Deportivo

, Barcelona are keen to continue their efforts to sign Gaya next summer. The Valencia captain has less than two years left on his current contract, which might push Los Che toward selling him as they are determined to avoid a free departure.

Gaya has spent his entire career at Valencia, featuring in 264 senior matches for the Spanish side. The 26-year-old has also made 16 appearances for Spain, where he has been mostly used as Alba’s backup.

Being a cornerstone of Barca’s squad in recent years, Alba will not be easy to replace. The Spanish left-back, who joined the Blaugrana from Valencia in 2012, has made 388 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 22 goals and providing 82 assists. In addition to winning Euro 2012 with Spain, Alba has won a Champions League trophy, five La Liga titles, and five Copa Del Ray honors at Barcelona.
