Lopetegui hails well-trained Rayo ahead of Sevilla’s opening clash

Sevilla will kick-start their La Liga season in a Sunday clash with the newly-promoted Rayo Vallecano.

Staying in the title race up until the bitter end when they finished the fourth last season,

an intriguing and absorbing opening-day battle is set to commence

as Julen Lopetegui’s men are to prove themselves once more. On the other end, finishing sixth in the Segunda Division, Rayo were promoted via the play-offs last season.

The Spaniard told his press conference:

“Our motto is that we have to fight for what we have in front of us.

“Tomorrow we could get three important points in different circumstances. That’s the maths that I believe in, lots of things will happen throughout the season, and what we must do is build a good, powerful group.”

Being quizzed about his club’s plans in the transfer market

, Lopetegui added:

“The league season is starting and I have a fantastic idea, which is focusing on the match tomorrow.

. “Everything else is secondary when the competition starts and that’s where our energy lies. As a well-trained, newly-promoted team, Rayo will force us to compete.”

With Jules Kounde saga still going on

, Sevilla have linked with a move Swedish defender

Ludwig Augustinsson

 recently.

The defender, who can perform at left-back or in central defence, makes a move to the club as part of a fire sale after they have been relegated to the German football’s second tier. Sevilla have to initially pay €4.5m with another €1m paid based on his performance bonuses in La Liga.

Julen Lopetegui is also determined to recruit another player before the summer transfer window ends and speculations suggest that he is eyeing Borussia Dortmund’s, Thomas Delaney.
