David Wagner: former Huddersfield Town boss set for West Brom job
Former Huddersfield manager David Wagner is on the verge of replacing Sam Allardyce as the new West Bromwich Albion’s boss.
According to Sky Sports News, the 49-year-old German coach looks set to take charge at the Hawthorns ahead of the new season if final talks go smoothly.

had been Albion’s number one target after
Sam Allardyce
announced he would leave the club at the end of last season.
However, the club’s board decided not to choose him as their new manager, and instead, they have turned their attention to the former
Huddersfieldboss to guide them back into the top flight at the first attempt.
Wagner led Huddersfield Town to promotion from the Championship via a play-off final victory over
Readingat Wembley in 2017.
Albion are targeting an immediate return to the top-flight and Wagner’s record impressed the club’s hierarchy.
The 49-year-old was heavily praised for keeping Huddersfield in the Premier League the following season.
Wagner has not managed in English football since he parted ways with Huddersfield Town in January 2019 with the club sat the bottom of the Premier League.
He returned to his native Germany to manage
Schalkein May 2019, leading the club to a 12th-placed finish in the following Bundesliga season.
His time at Schalke was not particularly successful, setting a new club record of 16 league games without a win in the second half of the 2019-20 season before he was sacked towards the start of the 2020-21 season.
