Matthew Anderson Career

He guided the West Seneca boys' volleyball team to a 17-0 regular-season record and a Sectional Finals trip in his senior year, falling in three sets to eventual state champion Hamburg.

The team won the Division I State Championship in 2004. Eden Volleyball Club in Eden, New York was his club volleyball team. Anderson had an unusually slow growth spurt as a kid, reaching his full height (6'8") as a sophomore at Penn State.

His original position was middle, which he played during his sophomore and junior high school seasons. He spent more time on the Outside and Right-side for Eden VBC as he gained more expertise in the game.

Anderson concluded his Penn State career with 1,212 kills and 82 aces, both of which are among the top 13 kills and aces in school history. He had a distinguished career, particularly in 2008, when he assisted in the Nittany Lions' second NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship victory over Pepperdine.

For his 29 kills against the Waves, he was named the NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Player. EIVA Player of the Year, AVCA National Player of the Year, AVCA First Team All-America, and All-EIVA First Team are among the other honors given out in 2008. He stated on July 1, 2008, that he would forego his final year at Penn State in 2009 and accept a professional contract with the Korean League's Hyundai Capital Skywalkers.

Anderson led the Skywalkers to first place in the regular season before losing 3-1 in the championship series in his first season.
