After head coach Renan dal Zotto confirmed his roster selection for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics a few hours after his players raised the trophy in the Italian Adriatic town of Rimini, The composition of the Brazilian championship in the FIVB 2021 Volleyball Nations League for the Olympics was largely unchanged.

Squad captain and setter Bruno Rezende, opposite Wallace, outside hitters Ricardo Lucarelli, Mauricio Borges, and Douglas Souza, and middle blockers Lucas Saatkamp and Mauricio Souza are among the seven players returning from the team that won gold at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games five years ago. In Tokyo, the Brazilian team was in Group B with Tunisia, Argentina, Russia, the United States and France and finished second in the group.

Yoandy Leal Hidalgo (born August 31, 1988, in Havana) is a Brazilian volleyball player who is of Cuban descent. After gaining Brazilian citizenship in June 2015, he was a previous member of the Cuban men's national volleyball team (2007–2010) and is now a member of the Brazilian men's national volleyball team (since 2019). Lube Civitanova is his club, and he is a wing-spiker.

Leal was a member of the Cuban national team for four years, making his debut in the 2007 FIVB Volleyball Men's U21 World Championship. This would earn a spot in the 2008 Summer Olympics in the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Düsseldorf. Cuba finished second to Germany in qualifying, but Leal was named Best Spiker and Server of the Championship.
