Capello slams Ronaldo and gives his opinion on the World Cup

Fabio Capello had some colorful opinions about various players at the World Cu, including Ronaldo and Theo Hernandez.

Fabio Capello spoke to Il Corriere della Sera, giving his thoughts about the World Cup whilst blaming the likes of “arrogant” Cristiano Ronaldo and “stupid” Emiliano Martinez.

Capello opened his interview by talking about the systems that was used by managers in the World Cup, saying:

“I’ve heard about many systems, but everyone used the same one: a 9-1 that made teams defend as a unit and attack with many players. It’s useless to invent something else.

“Ball possession is the death of football; absolutely boring. Those carrying the ball have no responsibility with ball possession, while it takes courage to play vertically.”

He then was asked about Deschamps decision not to include Benzema in the final and whether he was wrong to which he replied:

“No, I did the same with Savicevic before the Intercontinental Cup Final in 1993."

“On the morning of the game, he told me that he was ready to play after I had prepared everything with Raducioiu. Out of respect, I didn’t let him play. I thought it was a fair decision for the team. but the question remains: would Milan and France have won one more trophy with Savicevic and Benzema? Perhaps, yes.”

The former Juventus and AC Milan boss also gave his thoughts about

Theo Hernandez

’s performance in the final, as he said:

“He played with the handbrake on because ha had Mbappé in front of him and didn’t want his water to be occupied by other fishes. He was the only one allowed to swim there.”

Capello went on to claim that Lionel Messi was on the same level with Maradona even before the World Cup win. He then admitted that it would be “amazing” to see Ancelotti helm Brazil and that

Dibu Martinez

’s celebrations in the final was “stupid”.

Capello then concluded his talks by addressing the way

Ronaldo

behaved before and during the World Cup.

“Ronaldo brought it onto himself and for what he’s done in his career, it’s a shame,”

said Capello.

“As a player, he can’t be questioned, but he was arrogant. He offered himself without finding any club that would believe in him; he’s become a bit cumbersome for a team.”
