Dayot Upamecano, born 27 October 1998 in Evreux, France, is a French international football player who plays as a defender for the French national team and RB Leipzig in Bundesliga.

After various youth teams, when he was 15 Dayot joined the Valenciennes academy where he was noticed by many scouts. After a successful run at the European Under-17 Championship, major clubs were interested in him. Among others, there were rumours of interest from Manchester United but in July 2015, Dayo moved to Red Bull, who were more persistent and paid €2.2m for the transfer.

The player was sent to Austrian club Liefering, in Austria's first league, to gain playing experience and training. There, Dayo made his debut on 31 July 2015, appearing in the main squad for the encounter against St Pölten. Upamecano played a total of 16 games for the Liefering.

During the winter break, Dayo was called up to the main team. On 19 March 2016, he made his Austrian Bundesliga debut against Mattersburg, appearing in the main squad and playing the entire game. Upamecano traded Red Bull Salzburg for RB Leipzig in January 2017, which was halfway through his first ever season in the Bundesliga.

On 14 February 2021, it was announced that the defender would transfer to Bayern after the end of the season, the contract being until 2026. According to media reports, the transfer fee was €40m plus a €2m bonus.

Dayot Upamecano Early Life

At the age of 6 years old, Dayot joined the youth academy of Vaillante S. Angers, learning how to play football for three years, when in 2008 he joined FC De Prey. After just one year, then 11 years old Dayot moved to Évreux. In 2013, he joined the Valenciennes youth team and managed to show his talent.

In the summer of 2015, Dayot Upamecano appeared to be a promising prospect. He had not yet played a single professional match for Valenciennes, but the physical qualities of the 16-year-old defender were already apparent. Marcelo Bielsa's OM has made him their priority in central defence. The young player fitted in perfectly with the new vision of the club based on youth, which president Vincent Labrune wanted to put in place.

However, another team decided to go for the player from Valenciennes. According to Goal.com, Red Bull Salzburg have met with Upamecano's family. The Austrians presented him with a PowerPoint containing a detailed career plan as well as a high-quality accommodation structure. RB Leipzig

In the winter transfer window of the 2016/17 season, Upamecano moved to the German Bundesliga club and partner

RB Leipzig

, where he signed a contract until June 2021. He played his first Bundesliga match on 4 February 2017 away against Borussia Dortmund, when he came up as a replacement for Rani Khedira in the 66th minute. The match was lost 1-0.

In the next match against Hamburger SV, he started in the team’s lineup for the first time, however, he was substituted very early in the 31st minute when Yussuf Poulsen came on to replace him. On 18 March 2018 Upamecano played his first full 90 minutes match in the away match against SV

His first call-up to the national team was for the Aegean Cup with the U-16s. He made his

debut on 21 January 2014, playing in the starting line-up against Scotland in a 1-1 draw. On 23 January, he played the full match against Norway, played the entire game against Martin Ødegaard and won 4-1. The final match was for third place, against Ukraine, which he started and they won 3-2.

He was called up to play in the qualifying round of the 2015 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, France was drawn in group 4 with Cyprus, England and Macedonia.

Coach Jean-Claude Giuntini called Upamecano to play in the finals of the championship in Bulgaria. France was drawn in Group C with Scotland, Greece and Russia.

Their first opponent was Scotland, on 7 May they met, he started and won 5-0. On 10 May they played against Russia, he started the match, his teammate Odsonne Edouard scored the only goal of the match in the 50th minute to get the 3 points. Already qualified for the next phase, there was one match left to play to secure first place. in Chile. On 25 September, he was confirmed by the coach in the final squad to play in the U-17 World Cup.

He made his debut at world level on 19 October 2015, he played as a starter with the number 5 jersey against New Zealand and they won 6-1. Family, Children and Relationships

Dayot Upamecano was born on 27 October 1998 in Évreux. He comes from a family of Guinea-Bissau origin, of which he also has a nationality. His parents gave him his first name in honour of a great-grandfather who was king of a village in Guinea-Bissau, the village from which his family originates.

He has four sisters and a younger brother. At the age of 15, he underwent speech therapy to overcome dyslexia and stuttering, which caused him to be very shy and to have some difficulty expressing himself.
