Did you know that Muriel's rise through the Athletico Junior ranks was nearly derailed by a serious injury that forced him to give up football at the age of 13? Muriel was persuaded to return to the sport by his former coach after his recovery, and he went on to become Athletico Junior's top scorer in a national tournament.

Muriel joined Deportivo Cali at the age of 17 and began his professional career there.
