Reception
In his press conference, new Dortmund coach Peter Bosz announced that, without the club's knowledge, the 20-year-old French forward was missing.
At a press conference, Bosz told reporters, "He didn't come to practice today. We don't know why. We tried to reach him but we were unable to," "Hopefully nothing bad has happened."
Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc said, amid recent claims to the contrary, the 20-year-old lived in Dortmund but was suspended by the club until after the German Cup match against Rielasingen on Saturday.
After transferring from Rennes for around 15 million euros, Dembele celebrated a good debut season for the
Bundesligagiants. His shows captured the attention of Barca on the Neymar substitution market, whose EUR 222 million move to Paris St Germain shattered the world record for the transfer.
But late on Thursday afternoon, Dortmund announced in a statement that they had refused Dembele's bid, which was valued at around EUR 100 million.
A bid was made by the members of FC Barcelona which did not conform to the exceptional footballing skills of the player or to the actual economic business condition of the European transfer market. Accordingly, the BVB refused this request.
"As there is no other offer from FC Barcelona to date, there is currently no transfer of the player to FC Barcelona and this is not currently likely."
