Inter Milan beats Benfica in Portugal

Inter Milan defeats Benfica with two clean goals in the first leg of the European Champions League quarterfinals.

Inter Milan

achieved an impressive victory at the expense of its host

Benfic

with a score of 2-0 in the match that was held in the Portuguese team’s stronghold, "Al-Nour Stadium" in the first leg of the

Champions League

quarter-finals.

Niccolo Barella

gave Inter the lead with the first goal in the 51st minute, and

Romelu Lukaku

doubled the score from the penalty spot in the 82nd minute.

The beginning of the match came calmly from both sides amid defensive caution and in the 8th minute,

Dzeko

almost threatened Benfica's goal after Barella's cross and the Bosnian tried to touch it with his head to pass by the goal.

With Benfica advancing to try to attack and score the equalizer Inter relied on counterattacks, and the Italian team almost reached the second goal after a kick-off and a pass that reached

Correa

 who passed it to

Mkhitaryan

who penetrated into the area to hit a goal in which the goalkeeper shone to keep his team's hopes alive.

Lautaro Martinez

missed an excellent opportunity to threaten Benfica's goal after cutting the ball in the middle of the field to carry out a quick counterattack, and trying to pass the ball to his colleague Dzeko but he played it wrong.

Inter put forward the semi-finals, especially since it will play the second leg at its San Siro stadium on Wednesday, April 19.
