Paris Saint-Germain to submit bid for Stade de France

Paris Saint-Germain wants to buy the Stade de France after failure to buy the Parc des Princes stadium.

Paris Saint-Germain

on Friday confirmed that they will submit a bid to buy the Stade de France.

"we are candidates to buy the Stade de France”,

a club spokesperson told AFP.

The Parc des Princes stadium has been PSG’s home since 1974, but it is owned by Paris City Council and Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo has insisted that it is not for sale. PSG is willing to invest, €500million towards the Parc des Princes renovations, but only if they owned the stadium. The club signed a 30-year lease for the Parc des Princes in 2014

PSG's reported alternative option would be buying the Stade de France or building a new venue located outside Paris.

The Stade de France, 80,000-seater stadium, has been home to the France national team since 1998. The French government is ready to sell the stadium at a price of around 600 million euros. The deadline for the tenders expires on April 27. The current lease expires on July 1, 2025.

PSG is eight points clear at the top of Ligue 1 and will face Brest on Saturday. They were knocked out of the Champions League last 16 round following defeat by

Bayern Munich

on Wednesday.
