De Zerbi gives an update on wantaway Caicedo’s situation

The Colombian defensive midfielder is apparently ready to hand in a transfer request amidst Chelsea and Arsenal speculation

Following substantial rumors of Arsenal and Chelsea bidding for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo,

Brighton

boss Roberto De Zerbi has come out and expressed his desire to keep Caicedo for “a few more months”.

Caicedo

, who has been on Chelsea’s radar for a while, was subject to a bid from the Gunners who submitted a £60m offer. However, Brighton has reportedly rejected the offer as it is well short of their £100m evaluation of the Colombian.

Talking to reporters in his pre-match conference, De Zerbi admitted that he has had discussions with Caicedo in regards to the transfer, saying:

"[Caicedo] is a good guy. He is focused on Brighton. I hope he can stay with us until the end of the season. In my opinion that is the best solution for us. I can understand other big teams want Caicedo, [Alexis] Mac Allister, [Kaoru] Mitoma and [Solly] March.

"I spoke with him on Wednesday and I told him my opinion. It is always difficult to change during the season. For our way, it is important for him to stay a few more months.

"He is relaxed. I spoke with him like a father, not a coach. I understand when one player has the possibility to change to a very big team. But my work is to give the style of play but also advice for his career and his life."
