Former Brighton midfielder Mwepu hospitalized after a heart complaint

After being forced to retire at the age of 24 following heart problems, the former Brighton midfielder is under medical supervision in his homeland following a heart complaint.

Enock Mwepu

moved from Red Bull Salzburg to

Brighton

in the summer of 2021 where he played 27 games for the team and scored three goals. After many determination tests, he was diagnosed with a serious heart problem which forbade his presence on the football field, and hence the club offered him a coaching job within the club’s academy as he hung up his boots in October.

According to

, Mwepu suffered a heart complaint in his homeland as he took himself to the hospital after feeling some discomfort. He is in contact with doctors back in England.

Brighton provided an update to supporters on Mwepu's condition in a statement:

"Enock was taken unwell in Zambia and is currently undergoing precautionary checks. Our medical team is in communication with the hospital to assist if required. The club would like to thank the many well-wishers for their messages and support. The club nor Enock wish to provide any further comment at this stage."
